2015 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 390 times in 2015. If it were a cable car, it would take about 7 trips to carry that many people.

“You can conquer almost any fear if you will only make up your mind to do so. Remember, fear does not exist anywhere except in your mind” – (Dale Carnegie)

What are your fears?

  • Fear of taking risks
  • Fear of priorities and deadlines
  • Fear of being late for work
  • Fear that you have been rude to your peers when you were too preoccupied working on an important project
  • Fear of having a new boss
  • Fear of rejection when asking for a raise
  • Fear for being wrong
  • Fear for not being recognized
  • Fear of not being trusted by your leader or your peers
  • Fear of failure

This is a never-ending list; we come across this FEAR phenomenon almost everyday. Is there a day that you can recall when you were totally fearless! Face Everything And Rise. If you want to fear less, be fearless! We all know that being frightened make us lose all our means.

Fear is that little invisible beast which is always clinging to our shoulders, preventing us from growing, achieving and succeeding.

Being fearless does not mean…

National Swap Ideas Day which is annually celebrated on September 10, encourages us to share a creative or helpful idea (or ideas).

Swapping ideas today does not have to be done on a one-on-one basis.  It would be fun for a group of people to get together and share ideas.  People could share their ideas, thoughts and concepts and also learn from each other, while gathered in a social grouping.

The ideas that you receive from others may be good and helpful to you in your life that you may want to continue to pass them on and swap them with someone else.  This can continue throughout the entire day and by day’s end, you will have plenty of new information and helpful ideas to move forward with.

Have a GREAT National Swap Ideas Day!

Throughout the day, make sure to swap your ideas with others.

Research has found that National Swap Ideas Day, an “unofficial” national holiday,  was created by Robert Birch.

The final key to you – Grab the P Key – PASSION

, ,

Nothing happens by magic! I wished that we could all wave a magic wand to enhance our lives, achieve our goals, or send forth a tiny ripple of hope in someone’s life.

Steve Jobs once said – The only way to do great work is to love what you do

Show how passionate you are each day when you reach the office
and let others feel your passion. Act passionately; beat the deadlines for
submitting any projects you are working on.

Throughout my career, I came across some key elements that have helped me in finding my goals. I want to share them because every single thing we do has an effect on the people around us. They might trigger something within you; hence generating some ripples to unleash the Passion, Fearlessness and Belief within you.

“Tell me about a time when you had an urgent project that could not
be completed by the end of your normal workday? What was the situation
and what did you do?” —This is one of the favorite questions that most hiring managers like to ask during an interview. This question will demonstrate how passionate you are about your job.

Always be passionate about your job, not only when working on a
great project. Will you feel bad if your boss asks you to go and get coffee
for them? Based on my previous experience, I have had quite a few of my
peers who were somewhat upset when their bosses asked them to go and
get them a cup of coffee. They thought of this as a menial task. There is no
little job. No task is too big or too small for the unique EA. Understand
that creating expense reports and going to the coffee shop to buy coffee
are two equally important tasks that will enable your Leader to succeed.
Both creating a great expense report and buying a cup of coffee will be
extremely helpful for your boss. The expense report will be helpful in
tracking all types of expenses and the caffeine will boost their energy level.

Let me share with you one of my anecdotes. In one of my previous jobs,
when I was a newbie, one of my colleagues called me and said, “There is some clean-up to be done in the meeting room. The management team
had a lunch meeting. When you have some time, can you please drop
by and take care of the room?” I was somewhat upset, and thought that
because I recently joined the company that was why she asked me to clean
the meeting room. Then I said to myself, why should I be upset if I have
to clean a room—would my reaction have been different if I were asked
to take notes during that management meeting?

After going through this situation, I realized that one does not need
to have a “big” job to be passionate. A “big” job is not about paperwork
or attending a meeting where you want others to see what you are doing.
Even though you have to buy a cup of coffee or clean up after an executive
lunch meeting, put passion in it. Show respect to whatever type of job
you are doing.Talk with passion and excitement, but remember it is not
enough that you feel the passion, but let your boss know how passionate
you are about your job.

How can you let your boss know about your passion for your job? Yes,
you can do that during your one-on-one meetings with your boss. This is
where you will show how passionate you are. This is the only time when
it is only you and your boss, so you have to let them know that you are
very passionate about your job and that you are willing to help at any time, and that you would like to help on any future projects they are
planning to work on. Let them know that you want to grow, you want to
learn, and that you want to stay in that company. Passion triggers a lot of
enthusiasm, a lot of motivation, and you will feel like you can tackle more
tasks without any difficulty. When you are passionate and committed,
you will see how the day flies and will be happy about the contribution
you have brought throughout the day. Always wear a smile when you talk
to your peers or anyone across the organization. You know how you feel
when you leave the office after an exhausting day. Even though you are
exhausted, you feel happy and surrounded by energetic and positive vibes.

Here are some take-aways that I would like you to use, to unleash the
passion within you:
• Identify all essential tasks that you must tackle each day to get the
job done. Focus on the tasks that you are more passionate about as
passion intensifies your focus. Passion allows you to become more
creative. If you are passionate about preparing presentations using
Power point, at some point you will notice that you will start having
brilliant ideas and this will make your presentations different from
• Passion provides you the momentum to persevere and to pursue
excellence. If you are passionate about planning off-site meetings,
you will find yourself full of energy and will be determined to do
an excellent job.
• Passion is infectious. Seek out and spend more time around those
people who make you feel more energized, enthusiastic, and
• Pursuing the passion you have for your job will help you to
overcome fear. Afraid of changes? For example, having a new boss
or supporting an additional boss. If you are truly passionate about
your job, fear is not an option.

Passion is one of the key ingredients that will help you in finding and achieving your goals. Passion is the strong feeling of genuine enthusiasm that is within you. We all know that the recipe for success is passion. Be committed to your passion – inject passion in every aspect of your work. The more devoted you are to your work, the more willing you are to work harder at improving yourself and be better prepared to surmount the obstacles that will certainly arise in your day-to-day work or life.

When passion becomes an inspiration for our actions, we begin to live with more clarity and purpose. Think of how many opportunities we missed because we did not tap into our passion when faced with difficulty. “Stop, Think, Take Action”; no matter how difficult a task is, try it – who knows it might be something you discover that you are passionate about.

Just imagine, you are waking up on the morning of your 8th birthday. As soon as you open your eyes, you just remember it’s your birthday; it’s a special day because it does not feel like any other morning.  Don’t you have the feeling of being embraced by a wave of joy – there is something happening inside you and you are feeling good at that moment. As an adult, how would it feel to greet every single day with that level of zeal? You can wake up every morning with that same joy and enthusiasm when you have a passion in life.

Our lives are muddled with emotional baggage, deadlines and priorities.  We are walking in a foggy alley that prevents us in finding our visions, goals and focal point. We are overwhelmed by all these black spots and therefore cannot move forward in pursuit of our passion. We have no idea what do, we are lost and we need help. Everything stays the same because we have cluttered our lives.

For a start, let us see how we can completely or partly unclutter our lives and minds. Based on my personal experience the major roadblocks that I faced was caused by my emotions.

Emotions seem to rule our daily lives. Most of the time we make decisions based on whether we are happy, angry, sad, bored, or frustrated. We choose activities and hobbies based on the emotions they incite. “In 1972, psychologist Paul Eckman suggested that there are six basic emotions that are universal throughout human cultures: fear, disgust, anger, surprise, happiness, and sadness.”

However, when you are passionate about what you do, you believe in yourself. Even if today you are in search of your passion, you will truly believe that things will work out because you strongly believe in what you are doing. Wherever you go, whatever you do, whomever you meet; always have your passion on your mind.

Always remember that there are distractions everywhere – you will meet people who will be discouraging, when you will tell them about your passion. Some of them will make fun of you. If you are truly passionate about what you are doing, you will not back down. The rule of the game is to focus on your passion, which can be challenging sometimes. To overcome these challenges, just think that you have discovered a gem within you and that you will not let anything or anyone destroy it, at any cost.

I believe that when we are passionate about the work we do, we have
more energy to work much harder. We get more creative and are in a
better position to search for solutions when problems arise and we inspire
others who work next to us.

Great quote from Emile Coue which I have adopted as my mantra.

Every day, in every way, I’m getting better and better

Grab the A key – ANTICIPATE

Part of my job is to anticipate ahead of my leader… Sometimes it seems like I am playing a game of Chess, because most of the time I am trying to anticipate what will be the next move. Of course, we do not have a crystal ball on our desk that we can use to predict about their next moves. But if you want to be perceived as an exceptional EA, you must be able to foresee what’s ahead and guess an outcome. The more you know your leader, the better you will be anticipating at how they might respond.

By paying close attention and staying on top of things, you can easily anticipate your leader’s needs. Sometimes, slight modifications on your part can make your leader’s job easier and, which will make you look better. Observe their work styles and their communication preferences. Once you become familiar with their styles, the only thing you have to do is to adopt and adapt their techniques. For example may be your leaders find it easier that you speak to them about any work related issues rather than flooding them with emails.

In my opinion, I think that to anticipate is like swimming on a regular basis. The more you exercise the stronger and faster you become. Pay attention to what’s going on around you, listen carefully when your leader speaks to you; nowadays it’s not only about reading in between the lines but also about trying to understand in between a few words. As time goes, you will notice that you can quickly anticipate your leader’s needs.

Do not wait for your leader to tell you what to do, take the initiative and do it. Think ahead and be helpful. Never think that a task is too small if it can save your leader’s time. When your leaders are inundated with some projects and they have to beat a certain deadline, you can help by taking over routine tasks they normally handle. Take note of your leaders’ work habits, try to understand their styles and watch how they handle situations. When you present information to your leader, try to read his/her reaction. What I am trying to say here is that may be your leader is a person who loves numbers or information in a tabular format and has little patience for more abstract thinking. If this is the case, adopt this way of presenting your findings to him/her.

I believe that once you start to think like your leader, you will be in a better position to take initiative, you will also be able to anticipate additional questions or requests and handle them before you are asked. If you know that your leaders likes to keep up to date on news related to their respective industries, flip through some business magazines and bring any relevant articles to their attention.

Ultimately, if you know how to help your leader, you will make yourself valuable and admired by everyone within the organization.

You must always be able to predict what’s next and then have the flexibility to evolve – (Marc Benioff)
